Betsey Trotwood

I found out 8 days ago that I am pregnant with our first baby. I'm still not used to the idea (it was an accident, to be sure!), and even typing that out is very strange to me. I'm not very far along (in pregnancy terms, I am 6 weeks and 1 day along, although the baby itself is only 4 weeks and 1 day--isn't it weird how they count those first two non-pregnant weeks?).

My symptoms so far: an achy abdomen and slight nausea. The thought of eggs, sadly (as eggs and spinach have become my favorite breakfast food), makes me feel deeply ill. Aside from these symptoms, I feel very good indeed. I even went mountain biking last weekend, and felt like a rockstar!

Mom and I were talking about how, although we will be happy with the baby just for being itself, we (not-so-) secretly hope for a girl. Mom said she was like David Copperfield's aunt, Betsey Trotwood. If that baby comes out a boy, she's walking right out the door, she says. Ha!

I'm so happy you're starting a blog! Love the title. It's so exciting, this journey you're on...I not-so-secretly hope it's a girl too. But if you have a son, I'll just switch yarn colors and love him the very same. :)

Thank you for inviting me to your blog, April:) I love hearing your thoughts about your pregnancy and so glad you're keeping a record of all you're going through! Your baby will treasure reading it someday too. I'll hit the midwife with my hat, too! It is weird how they count those two weeks before ovulation...as Chester said...by that logic, we're all pregnant:)
